Home Learning

This is our Home Learning for Term 3

Home Learning Term 3

Dear Parents

This term Navigators 3 will learn their spelling words at home. They will select their new words and put them into their spelling books on a Friday at school and bring them home that night.

Over the following week they will learn them each night at home. Spelling books will be brought back to school on Friday morning (children who remember get 50 Banqer dollars). It is very important they are returned on Friday mornings so the words can be tested and a new list selected. Please support your child until they get into the routine.

Reading is the same as Term 2 with 15-30 minutes reading each night. This term is a film making term where children will be making documentaries. Perhaps encourage children to watch some documentaries on television as well as reading some nonfiction books with information that could be turned into documentaries.

Mathematics
Term 3 is our fractions, decimals and ratios term. We will be solving problems which focus on these operations. It would be helpful if you could have a push on learning the multiplication tables - we are aiming for accuracy and speed. Focus on the 2, 5, 10’s first, then 3,6,9’s next and lastly 4, 8’s and 7, 11 & 12’s. Extra for experts is learning the division facts that go with these. Multiplication and division are frequently used when solving problems with fractions, decimals and percentages.

This home learning update will be put on the blog under Home Learning.

We appreciate the support you give your children, and us, during the term. It certainly helps their learning.

Looking forward to another busy and exciting term.

Sheryl and Alice

Reading SMART

1.     Please read for 15-30 minutes each night from a variety of books, from home or a library. Read different types of books e.g. mystery, adventure, biography, nonfiction.

Mathematics  SMART

Do the set activities that relate to our current Mathematics topic on basic facts and addition and subtraction. Your maths group teacher will assign you tasks on Study Ladder. Use the code they give you to sign in.
If you are practicing basic facts, writing them out is a really good way to learn them. Say them as you go and make flash cards so you can answer them really quickly.

Spelling  SMART

Spelling words are to be learnt at school. If you feel they need extra support at home, send along a notebook so they can make an extra list to take home. Please make sure the notebook comes back on Friday so the new list can be entered.

Please note:
From time to time to time there will be other home learning relating to other learning areas.
